Chevrolet has been a major player in the American SUV market for many years with many models that are some of the most popular. Two of the models which ring a bell, one which has been with us for many years and has been upgraded for 2021 is the new Blazer, and the second is a newer one, first created about 11 years ago and newly upgraded, the 2021 Traverse.
Each is an excellent SUV leasing with the monthly lease payments in Westchester county being less than $370 for the Traverse and less than $460 for the Blazer. But what exactly are the differences in each model, after all, isn’t an SUV just an SUV? The short answer is no, each Chevrolet SUV satisfies a specific place in the market, for certain drivers that have certain needs. The point of this comparison of the 2021 Traverse and the 2021 Blazer is help help shed some light on the difference and which one is a better SUV for you to lease this year.
Interior
The first and most obvious difference between the new Traverse and the new Blazer is the size of the interior cabin. The Chevy Traverse is a full size 3 row SUV with a seating capacity of up to 8 people. While the Blazer is a mid-size crossover SUV with 2 rows and a seating capacity of 5. Regarding the legroom and headroom in the first and second rows of each model, they are fairly similar With about 60-62 inches of shoulder room in the front row. The same goes for the second row, while the Traverse is slightly wider adults can fit comfortably in either row of either model in 2021. The third row of the Traverse had significant extra space, but not for everyone. Some adults might find the third row’s space only suitable for short trips and be a little tight for knee and legroom, but for children, it should be fine.
The cargo space of the Traverse is also obviously more. The third and second row can both fold down to open up to about 98 cubic feet of total cargo space. There are also about 57 cubic feet behind the second row and just 23 cubic feet behind the third row.
The 2021 Blazer has about 30 cubic feet behind the second (and last) row, and to the front seats, there are about 64 cubic feet.
The infotainment isn’t so different, but the Blazer comes standard with an 8 inch LCD touchscreen While the Traverse comes with a 7 inch. Both models allow upgrades and come with the full integration package including Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, USB charging, and more.
Exterior
The 2021 Blazer has gone through major changes in the last couple of years. An easy way to describe the exterior of the Chevy Blazer is by blending a crossover SUV and a sports car, which was exactly their goal. It looks sporty, with a well designed aerodynamic body. It comes with 18-inch aluminum or black aluminum tires that, coupled with its sport suspicion and handling in either AWD or FWD provide for an enjoyable drive.
The 2021 Traverse, has a more traditional look for a 3 row SUV that focuses on luxury and family-style vehicles. It looks not so different from a well-designed and SUV-like minivan, It is slightly taller than the Blazer so you have a dominant view of the road, and with excellent handling, you will feel like you can control the full-size SUV despite its larger size. It also comes with either 18 inch or 20-inch wheels which dress up the outside with its sharp LED headlights to provide for an excellent looking vehicle.
Safety
The 2021 Blazer has done slightly better its safety ratings than the 2021 Traverse. They both received 5 stars in the overall safety tests, but the Blazer also got a 5 star in the frontal crash tests while the Traverse got a 4 star. They both come with the full Chevrolet driver assistance program for additional safety.
Engine
The standard engine on the 2021 Blazer is smaller, a 4 cylinder with 193 horsepower, and the standard engine for the 2021 Traverse is a V6 with 310 horsepower. There aren’t other engine options for the Travers, and in higher-level trims, the Blazer can be upgraded to have the same V6 engine.
At the entry-level, the Blazer gets slightly better fuel efficiency at 19 mpg in the city and the Traverse getting 18 mpg in the city.
To conclude the main difference for most people is the seating capacity and cargo space. If you need more cargo space and have a larger family the Traverse will be the way to go. But if you don’t have use for the additional seating and want an SUV with a slightly sportier look then the BLazer will be a better match. Happy car leasing!
