You know it’s time for a new car when … you take your girl out for a country drive, heading to Bear Mountain, and break down half way there. Just picture it … you’ve got the ring in your pocket, the picnic lunch is in the trunk replete with blanket, romantic play-list, sparkling lemonade, all your beloved’s favorites. You’ve rehearsed your proposal and your heart is beating a mile a minute. You’ve got the top down on your ‘99 TVR 4.0 Chimera and you’re feeling like nothing could spoil the moment. Yeah right! Reality check ….
Suddenly, you’re on the side of the road just north of Peekskill, waiting for a tow truck. Of course it arrives just as the lemonade erupts from the bottle, ruining the moment and the only beverage for miles around. I’ll spare you the details but needless to say there was no proposal that day. Clearly, I needed a new vehicle for practicality and a new alternator for my beloved Chimera, who will be relegated to car shows in the trailer henceforth.
But what to do? Do I lease, do I buy? Do I go for something sexy and sporty or do I think about my future and the hopes of an expanding family? Family! Will she say yes after this fiasco?
Never one to browse online, I hit dealers all over Westchester County hoping to find the right balance to satisfy my ultra-picky eye. When I saw the Acura Integra I thought, “this has potential”. The lines impressed me, I never thought of Acura as having sex appeal but this car speaks to my flash-loving nature. The turbo-charged 1.5 L VTEC engine with 6-speed manual transmission sold me and my girl is loving the 12-way adjustable memory seats. I enjoy this car more every time I take it out of the garage. Now … it’s back to Bear Mountain for that picnic … this time I’m confident she’ll say yes.
