All About The 2023 Volkswagen ID.8: In-Depth Preview

First, it was with the VW ID.3 to replace the popular Golf. Now, the German brand has confirmed that it will be launching a new three-row electric SUV, called the VW ID.8, which we believe will serve as an electric alternative to the regular Atlas.

It’s no news that VW plans to refresh its lineup with a new sub-brand of all-electric cars with the marque, ID. Series. The German maker of reliable cars has, over the past few years, shown so much commitment and zeal to offering capable and dependable EVs.

Although VW has yet to release details about the upcoming ID.8, the automakers have confirmed that it will be a three-row electric SUV, larger than the ID.4, and seating up to seven passengers. This family-friendly electric SUV affords all the right appeal of the gas-powered Atlas. It will be the largest VW ID model when it finally becomes available for leasing.

What To Expect

Volkswagen hasn’t released detailed specs about the upcoming VW ID.8. Still, it’s clear that it will be a three-row electric SUV. It will likely share styling with the smaller ID.6 (exclusively sold in China) and much bigger than the US available ID.4. This upcoming mid-size electric crossover SUV will launch on the VW’s electric-vehicle architecture, the MEB platform. With the MEB platform, you can expect the ID.8 to afford an ample interior space, which is typical with vehicles built on the platform, including the ID. Buzz concept. The spacious and comfy cabin of the 2023 ID.8 could likely seat up to seven.

To meet the power needs of the American shoppers, the upcoming 2023 Volkswagen ID.8 will likely come with 350 horsepower, produced by two electric motors, one at each axle. Also, we will probably be getting a battery pack of not less than 100kWh that sends power either through the rear-wheel or all-wheel drive system and a range of more than 300 miles per charge.

Just as VW offers the ID.4 in four different trims, we will likely see the 2022 VW ID.8 in four different trim levels— the base, Pro, and Pro S trims, and lastly, the 1stEdition model to mark its first model year.

Battery, Range & Charging

The VW ID.6 available in China comes with a 58.0- and 77.0-kWh battery pack. The 77.0-kWh battery pack delivers a driving range of up to 365 miles on a full charge. Although the American ID.8 is slightly larger than the Chinese ID.6, it could use the same battery pack and deliver the same miles. For charging, expect the upcoming ID.8 to support fast charging as standard.

Interior, Cargo

Thanks to the MEB platform, the three-row ID.8 promises to deliver a comfortable and spacious cabin with enough cargo hold area. Expect to see family-friendly tech niceties and a large 12.0-inch infotainment touchscreen and panoramic glass roof in this three-row electric crossover.

We will surely keep you posted with more information on the upcoming VW ID.8.
