You may have probably noticed the popular Chevy Bolt EV hatchback—an affordable electric hatchback. If you want something a little more practical than the Bolt hatchback, Chevrolet have you covered, and the answer is with the all-new 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV.
Again, Chevrolet has proven that it can offer a properly affordable mainstream electric car. First, it was with the Bolt EV hatchback, and now it’s with the Bolt EUV. If you don’t mind the ‘U’ in the name, these two electric cars are much the same, affording similar design language and styling inside and out. However, the Bolt EUV is an SUV-inspired electric vehicle, affording a larger dimension than the Bolt EV.
Powertrain & Transmission
Powering the new 2022 Bolt EUV is an electric motor that combines with a 65-kWh lithium-ion battery placed under the vehicle’s floor. It produces a power output of 200 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque. This familiar powertrain is standard in the Bolt EV. The powertrain setup sends power exclusively to the front wheels of the Bolt EUV.
The 2022 Bolt EUV is very quick and affords a smooth acceleration, just like the Bolt EV. Its steering is firm and responsive, while its brake pedal tuning is excellent with great stopping powers.
Fuel Economy
While the new Bolt EV with a similar powertrain gets an EPA estimated 120 MPGe combined rating, the all-new 2022 Bolt EUV could earn a similar rating.
Range & Charging
Chevy estimates the 2022 Bolt EUV with a 65.0-kWh battery pack to deliver a driving range of 259 miles on a full charge. EPA rates this small electric crossover to offer 247 miles of driving range per charge. This figure is 12 miles less than the estimated range of the lighter and smaller Bolt EV. Still, it’s enough to take on some close rivals.
The new Chevy Bolt EUV comes standard with a dual-level charge cord, which can plug into 120-volt (Level 1) and 240-volt (Level 2) outlets. These outlets can draw up to 7.2 kW, and although Chevy didn’t say how long it takes to charge the new Bolt EUV, judging from what is available in the Bolt EV, the 2022 Bolt EUV could fully charge in 7 hours. It could also support a DC fast charging that can add about 100 miles of range in 30 minutes.
Interior, Cargo
Although it looks exactly like the Bolt EV inside, the 2022 Bolt EUV addresses many of the issues and complaints about the cabin of the Bolt EV. The new Bolt EUV boasts a more contemporary interior styling and more soft-touch materials. It is also roomier, with slightly comfortable and supportive seats.
For infotainment, Chevy offers an intuitive 10.2-inch touchscreen that features wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Safety
Besides the numerous standard and optional driver assists features of the 2022 Bolt EUV, this electric vehicle is the first Chevy car to come with the famed GM’s Super Cruise and hands-free driver assistance technology.
If you need an affordable EV, a Chevy is always the option. If you need an affordable EV with SUV practicality, leasing the 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV is the deal.
