A Complete Preview On The Upcoming 2024 Ram 1500 EV

Spread the love

If you’re a big fan of Ram and you’re wondering why the brand is taking so long to offer an EV, you might have to smile and forget about the question, as Ram has confirmed that an electric version of the popular Ram 1500 is on the way.

But then, why are they taking so much time to offer an EV? The brand boss answered, “Ram doesn’t have to be the first electric truck. It just needs to be the best.” If this American brand is playing save the best for last, they are definitely doing it well.

The First Ram EV

Ram has confirmed that it will be joining the growing list of automakers to embrace electrification. Although the first Ram electric truck won’t be available until at least 2024, the Ram 1500 EV will join the long list of electric full-size pickup trucks that already have the Ford F-150 Lightning and Chevy Silverado EV.

Ram says that the 2024 Ram 1500 EV, powered exclusively by electricity, will come with the traditional body-on-frame construction and standard all-wheel drive. Also, Ram expects its first electric truck to deliver a driving range of up to 500 miles on a full charge and be able to tow more than 10,000 pounds.

What To Expect

While Ram has yet to divulge specific details about the upcoming Ram 1500 EV, the parent company, Stellantis, has given us a few hints of what to expect.

The first Ram fully electric truck will be proudly American, built on the Stellantis STLA Frame for all large body-on-frame vehicles. Ram claims that the truck will utilize locally produced batteries, which is clear, considering Stellantis’s new deal with LG Energy Solution, with goals towards producing lithium-ion batteries.

While we don’t know about the powertrain, towing capacity, or range of the upcoming Ram 1500 EV, we expect this electric truck to come with two to three electric motors. For max towing rating and payload capacity, we expect this truck to tow more than 10,000 pounds.

For battery size and charging, this half-ton Ram EV could have a 100+ kWh battery pack for it to deliver the 500 miles of driving range on a full charge, claimed by Ram. While Ram has generally kept mum about other specifics, it confirmed just last year that the upcoming 1500 EV would feature a 150 kW fast charging. The American maker of trucks further confirmed that its first fully electric truck, the 1500 EV, will sport a charge station locator, smart charging and vehicle preconditioning, drive modes, dynamic range mapping, and autonomous driving capabilities.

While it may take a while before we see this Ram EV, no doubt, Ram is taking its time to serve us with one of the finest electric trucks. Ram has always reaffirmed its commitment to redefining the segment. Will that be possible with the Ram 1500 EV? We can only hope so.
